When Peter Carlsson joined the "tremendously competent team that Elon had built" at Tesla in the summer of 2011, he had more than a decade of experience as an operations and supply chain professional.Carlsson spent the first 13 years of his career growing the mobile phone supply chain as an Ericsson sourcing manager in 1995 and became its head of sourcing in 2001, before working with NXP Semiconductors to transform their operations and supply chain. That experience, though, wouldn't carry the same weight at Tesla, where CEO Elon Musk's innovative streak pushed him and his employees to challenge their own assumptions and think outside of the limits of existing tech."Elon taught me a number of things," Carlsson told Insider of his time as Tesla's supply chain chief. "I thought I was a really seasoned operations and supply chain guy, and he just questioned these assumptions that [I] learned during [my] career. Are they as relevant today as they were five or 10 years ago?"
