U.S. Stocks Continue To Lack Direction In Mid-Day Trading

(RTTNews) - Following the choppy trading seen early in the session, stocks continue to turn in a lackluster performance in mid-day trading on Thursday. The major averages have spent the day bouncing back and forth across the unchanged line.

Currently, the major averages are posting modest losses. The Dow is down 31.46 points or 0.1 percent at 30,378.10, the Nasdaq is down 33.60 points or 0.3 percent at 12,836.41 and the S&P 500 is down 3.13 points or 0.1 percent at 3,728.91.

The choppy trading on Wall Street comes as traders seem reluctant to make significant moves on the final trading day of the year, with some likely looking to get a head start on New Year's Eve celebrations.

Even with the lackluster session, the major averages are poised to post strong gains for 2020 despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Year-to-date, the Dow has jumped by 6.6 percent and the S&P 500 has surged up by 15.5 percent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq has skyrocketed 43.4 percent.
