Dr. Syra Madad is an infectious diseases epidemiologist and the senior director of NYC Health + Hospitals System-wide Special Pathogens Program.




As businesses around the US enter various phases of reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Madad says it's critical that employers create a flexible operating plan to adapt to evolving restrictions and keep employees and customers safe.




Madad also advises that business stay up to date on their local regulations, and be prepared to adjust operating plans accordingly.




At an individual levels, safety measures should include screening and health checks of employees and a mask-wearing policy. At an operational level, businesses should standardize cleaning and disinfecting routines and reduce the number of customers inside at one time.
