Interior Ministry: Novus supermarket illegal seizure in Ukraine stopped

Interior Ministry: Novus supermarket illegal seizure in Ukraine stoppedThe Novus Ukrainian-Lithuanian Group faced an illegal seizure of property worth over UAH 1 billion, an advisor to Ukrainian Interior Minister Mykhailo Apostol wrote on his Facebook page.

"Due to criminal actions by a group of persons who used documents with fake signatures and stamps amendments to the public register were made with the implication of the registrar of Baryshivka rural council of Kyiv region. Corporate rights of the company that has the largest investment of Lithuania in Ukraine were completed re-registered," Apostol said.

He said that representatives of the Interior Ministry, owners and lawyers of the company urgently moved to Baryshivka. Head of the district administration and rural council were involved due to a risk that swindlers could re-sell the company's assets.

"Only thanks to the quick interference of Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine we managed to cease the criminal scheme to seize foreign assets in Ukraine… Corporate rights were returned to the real owner. A criminal case and investigation have been launched," he said.

Novus Ukraine LLC manages Novus hypermarket and supermarket chain and Novus Express convenient stores in Ukraine. The first Novus supermarket was opened in Ukraine in 2008.

As of July 11, 2016, Consul Trade House LLC (Vilnius, Lithuania) held 100% in the company.
