Migrant workers are the biggest investor in Ukraine's economy

Migrant workers are the biggest investor in Ukraine's economyAccording to the research of the International Migration Organization in 2014 2.8 billions dollars were transferred through formal and informal channels in Ukraine, whilst the international aid given in 2014 amounted only to 1 billion dollars.

In addition to it, about 100 million dollars were received by the country in natural form (products, goods, equipment, etc.).

The Russian Federation remains the main country of destination for Ukrainian labour force (30%). Other important destinations are Poland (21%), Czech Republic (15%) and Italy (11%).

According to the study, every fifth worker is willing to invest funds earned abroad in the production in his native country.

"This testifies to the fact, that in a case of effective management, the labor migration and the capital generated by it, can effectively promote humanitarian, social, economic and cultural development of Ukraine", - said Manfred Profazi, the Head of the IMO Mission in Ukraine.

According to the survey conducted during the 2014–2015 years, almost 21 thousand families throughout the territory of Ukraine and 1.890 thousand labor migrants at the Ukrainian border crossing points were interviewed.
