Brent Murphy awarded the 2019 David Milliken Media Communications Award

TORONTO, March 15, 2019 /CNW/ -A The Communications + Public Relations Foundation has named Brent Murphy the 2019 recipient of theA David Milliken Media Communications Award. Now in its fifth year, the Award is presented annually to a fourth-year student within Humber College's Bachelor of Public Relations (BPR) program, who has shown strong aptitude in the area of media relations. It was established by CNW Group (now CISION) to celebrate senior vice-president Milliken's 30-year service to the company and his commitment to the important relationship between journalism and public relations.

When choosing Murphy, the jury recognized his critical thinking and understanding of the media, which he displayed during his internship at Weber Shandwick Canada. Throughout the placement, Murphy took full advantage of the opportunity and leveraged his understanding of the changing role of social and traditional media to effectively work for clients such as Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, McDonald's and General Motors.
"The Scholarship Committee was very impressed by Brent and his well-reasoned and acutely observed assessment of the media landscape," said Deborah Trouten APR, FCPRS LM, Chair, Communications + Public Relations Foundation. "It's clear he understands the important relationship between public relations and the media, and that the more willing we are to work together, the easier it will be for us all to achieve our goals."
Trouten presented Murphy with the Award and its accompanying $1000 bursary March 13 at an event hosted at Humber College, where the late Milliken served as chair of the BPR development committee.About the David Milliken Media Communications Award:
