Sensex, Nifty Open Lower After Weak China Data

(RTTNews) - Indian shares opened slightly lower on Wednesday, tracking weak cues from other Asian markets after results of a private survey showed China's manufacturing activity contracted for the first time in 19 months in December.

The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 185 points or 0.51 percent at 36,069 while the broader Nifty index was down 65 points or 0.59 percent at 10,845.

VST Tillers, Eicher Motors and Tata Motors fell 1-5 percent after unveiling December sales figures.

Cash-strapped airline Jet Airways tumbled 2.2 percent after it defaulted on debt payments to banks.

Power Grid Corporation of India dropped 1 percent after commissioning a transmission project.

MOIL shed 0.6 percent after it reduced prices on different grades of manganese ore by 10 percent.

NMDC rallied 3.5 percent on share buyback news.

Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals soared more than 5 percent after commencing commercial production at its Rajasthan plant.

Weizmann Forex rose over 1 percent. The company's promoters plan to sell their entire shareholding in the company to EBIX Group.

Bank of Maharashtra gained 1 percent on fund raising reports.
