Blackout persists, water supply rationed in Avdiyivka in war-torn eastern Ukraine

Blackout persists, water supply rationed in Avdiyivka in war-torn eastern Ukraine Avdiyivka has the centralised heating supply with average indoor air temperatures of 15-17 degrees Celsius, while centralised power supply has yet to be restored, the Ukrainian State Emergency Service said in a report as of 8 a.m. on Thursday.

"Heating supply to the city with a population of about 22,000 is centralised; it comes from the plant's co-generator running on natural gas; water temperature in the heating grids stands at 50 degrees Celsius, and indoor air temperature is 15-17 degrees. There is rationed centralised water supply from reserves (a 200 kWt power plant of the State Emergency Service is pumping water at the Avdiyivka pumping station)," the report said.

There is no centralised power supply. Social facilities, which have no reserve generators of their own, are been powered by 11 generators of the State Emergency Service.

A total of 149 persons, including 77 children, have been evacuated from Avdiyivka, the report said.

The city has a shelter (seven tents deployed by the State Emergency Service and one deployed by a charity) and three stationary warming centres, which have been visited by over 4,500 people. Three field kitchens are providing food.

Outdoor temperatures stood at minus 10 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning.
