Toxic liquor kills at least 26 in PakistanAt least 26 people reportedly killed, dozens more affected after consuming toxic liquor on Christmas Eve in Pakistan over the last two days, local media reported on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Toba Tek Singh’s Mubarakbad Basti a Christian neighborhood. Death toll is expected to rise as police confirms dozens in hospital receiving medical treatment.

Police has confirmed that the liquor was brewed in Mubarakabad Basti, which turned out to be toxic. On Christmas Eve members of Christian community unsuspectingly consumed this toxic which resulted in killing of at least 26 and more than 50 others being seriously affected.

The affected are currently receiving medical treatment at Allied Hospital in Faisalabad. Doctors said that conditions of the affectees were critical.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Saddar, Atif Imran Qureshi said that the toxic liquor was sold on the basis of permitted liquor. He said that police is carrying out investigations and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Among those killed included two Muslims as well. Seven suspects have been detained on charges of supplying the alcohol.
