Journalist killed in Afghanistan by roadside bomb Afghanistan television station employer was killed by a roadside bomb in the southern province of Helmand on Friday, while performing his duty, Reuters.

A journalist of Ariana News Nematullah Zaheer had been traveling with other journalists to report on a police operation just outside the provincial capital Lashkar Gah when their vehicle came under fire and police advised them to leave the main road.

Swaying from the main road, the vehicle knocked into an improvised explosive device and Zaheer was killed.

The agency Ariana News confirmed the death via Twitter.

Zaheer's death contributed to a growing death toll among journalists in Afghanistan so far this year having amounted to at least 11 journalists.
