British jet diverted to Vancouver over “sick crew”

British jet diverted to Vancouver over “sick crew”A British Airways flight from San Francisco to London was diverted to Vancouver after members of the crew became ill, the airline says.

The incident happened on Monday night. The flight departed at 19:13 on Monday (02:13 GMT) and landed in the Canadian city several hours later.

The cause of the incident is unclear. There has been no confirmation over how many people the Airbus A380 carried, but there probably were around 400 passengers on board.

As for now "a number of cabin crew and two passengers" were being medically checked as a precaution following the Monday night incident.

Laura Kohli, a spokeswoman for Vancouver Coastal Health hospitals, told Canadian broadcaster CBC that 25 people had been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Ten patients went to Richmond Hospital, another 10 went to the Vancouver General Hospital, and another five went to the Delta Hospital. As of about 8am, the patients at the Richmond Hospital and the Vancouver General Hospital had all been treated and released. Those 20 were all cabin crew members, Kohli said.

BA said passengers had been put up in hotels and would be rebooked on other flights.
