Goals: Scotland 1-1 Chile
Scotland women were pegged back by Chile as both sides continued their World Cup preparations with a draw. In a confident and assured first-half performance in Murcia, Spain, Shelley Kerr's side moved into the lead through Erin Cuthbert's volley.Cuthbert and Lizzie Arnot had efforts saved as the Scots dominated.
But Chile levelled in the second period through Karen Araya's penalty after goalkeeper Lee Alexander had fouled Daniela Zamora.Kerr's team, who beat Denmark and Iceland last month, face the world's 10th best team, Brazil, on Monday, also in Murcia. And they host Jamaica at Hampden in late May before taking on England, Argentina and Japan at the finals in June.
Scots impressive but undone by error
Cuthbert and Arnot tormented Chile in the first half with the former smashing home after Kirsty Smith's cross had been helped on by Kim Little.Arnot was denied by Christiane Endler after being played in by Little and Cuthbert and Arnot were frustrated by the goalkeeper in quick succession before a further effort by Arnot forced another save.Chile, who will meet United States, Thailand and Sweden at the World Cup, served a warning to Scotland in the first half when Francisca Lara latched on to Rachel Corsie's short back-pass only to draw a save from Alexander. But Jose Letelier's side found their way back into the match after the break when Smith's mis-placed pass to Corsie was pounced upon by Zamora and Alexander upended the attacker, resulting in a booking.Araya, who had earlier fired over, sent Alexander the wrong way from 12 yards.Endler was well placed to block Lisa Evans' header and foiled Cuthbert once again in the closing stages.
'Definitely work in progress' - reaction
Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr: "The first half, we created lots of chances, should've been up 4-0 at half-time. The second half we didn't start well, we allowed Chile to come into the game a little bit."We still created lots of chances - I thought it was double figures the amount of chances. You can't have that many chances a game and not win it at this level. We're probably disappointed not to come away and win the game. Definitely work in progress."
