Finback whale swims very close to boat full of tourists (VIDEO)A whale-watching tour in Quebec became very special last weekend. A group of whale watchers were treated to a rare sight when a big fin whale glided below the boat’s hull. A fin whale is the second-largest animal on Earth, after the blue whale.

A French tourist visiting Canada posted three videos of the close encounter on Sunday in waters near Tadoussac, Que.

Eric Mouellic, who made the footage, described the close encounter as “an unforgettable experience… magic.” The video shows a fin whale slowly swimming toward the boat. A few tourists shout in apparent delight as the whale opens its mouth wide, lifts a pectoral fin for a brief wave and dips just below the vessel.

The dark grey whale, which was around 18 meters long and 50 tonnes in weight, can be seen in the distance before then approaching the boat, where it turns over and swims under the raft, missing it by mere inches.

Located about 215 kilometres northeast of Quebec City, Tadoussac is a popular tourist destination known for being rich in marine life, including krill, small fish and whales.
